My Grandma Chamberlain

Her Hands

Her hands kneading bread, scrubbing clothes
Her hands watering a garden, plucking a rose
Her hands drying a tear, wiping a nose

Her hands straightening a tie, tying a shoe
Her hands fixing hair, teaching her youth
Loving as only a mom can do

Her hands sewing a quilt, pounding a nail
Her hands writing a letter, opening the mail
Her hands always busy without fail

Her hands were in their perfect place
When clasped in his strong embrace
Together always a smile on each face
Keeping up with the other's busy pace

Her hands gently rub his back
Her hands, her touch was the last
She held him as he passed
From this side of the veil to that

Her hands staying busy for many years
Her hands planting more seeds and calming fears
Her hands braiding rugs, canning pears
Her hands always with a project near

Her hands waving a last good bye
Her hands waiting with a patient sigh
Everyone hurries to be by her side
No need for us to cry

Her hands reach out to him
The veil has become so thin
Loving arms welcome her in
Her hands are in his again

  1. It's hard to type and cry at the same time. What a touching and poignant remembrance of our sweet heroine. May my own hands ever be like hers I pray. Jill, you are a gem, a talented and sensitive spirited daughter of royalty. I love you and oh how we love her!
